The 2019 Annual Academic Conference on Aquatic Product Processing and Comprehensive Utilization of the Chinese Society for Fisheries Was Successfully Held.

On December 11, 2019, the 2019 Annual Academic Conference on Aquatic Product Processing and Comprehensive Utilization of the Chinese Society for Fisheries, hosted by the Aquatic Product Processing and Comprehensive Utilization Branch of the Chinese Society for Fisheries and organized by Ocean University of China, with co-sponsorship from the Shandong Provincial Demonstration Engineering Research Center for Marine Food Technology and the Shandong Provincial Engineering Research Center for Biomanufacturing of Marine Foods, was successfully held at the Conference Center of the Huanghai Hotel in Qingdao. Attending the conference and delivering outstanding presentations were Sun Baoguo, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor at Beijing Technology and Business University; He Dongping, a second-level professor at Wuhan Polytechnic University; Yuan Qipeng, a professor at Beijing University of Chemical Technology and a Changjiang Scholar Distinguished Professor appointed by the Ministry of Education; Ding Yuting, a professor at Zhejiang University of Technology and chief engineer of the Zhejiang University of Technology Institute of Marine Research; and Xue Changhu, a professor at Ocean University of China and an expert under the Shandong Province Taishan Scholar Climbing Program. In addition, more than 100 experts and faculty members, along with over 300 students, participated in the event, bringing the total attendance to over 400. FoodPartner Network attended the conference as a media support partner. The theme of the conference was “Green Development and Nutritional Health,” and it comprised three main components: keynote speeches, specialized presentations, and a graduate student forum.

On the morning of the 11th, Professor Xue Changhu of Ocean University of China, acting as the moderator, declared the meeting open and invited Vice President Yan Ju of Ocean University of China to deliver a welcoming address. Subsequently, Professor Xue Changhu, in his capacity as an Executive Council Member of the Chinese Society of Fisheries and as Chairperson of the Fisheries Products Processing and Comprehensive Utilization Division of the society, delivered a speech on behalf of the Chinese Society of Fisheries and announced the commencement of the keynote presentations. The keynote sessions were co-chaired by Professor Zhang Chao-hua, Vice President of Guangdong Ocean University, and Professor Cao Min-jie, Vice President of Jimei University. Academician Sun Baoguo’s presentation focused on recent advances in research on alcohol consumption and health; Professor He Dongping’s talk addressed the development of marine oil products and the establishment of relevant standards; Professor Yuan Qipeng’s presentation explored the discovery and application of food-derived natural bioactive compounds; Professor Ding Yuting’s paper examined the labor-intensive nature of the aquatic product processing industry and strategies for “replacing human labor with machinery”; and Professor Xue Changhu’s

On the afternoon of the 11th, four parallel sessions were held, featuring more than 40 keynote presentations by professors and researchers from various research institutions. The session topics included green processing of aquatic products, nutrition and health benefits of aquatic products, quality and safety control of aquatic products, and technological innovation and equipment development in aquatic product processing. Session 1 was co-chaired by Professor Xie Jing of Shanghai Ocean University and Professor Yang Wenge of Ningbo University; Session 2 was co-chaired by Professor Wang Yanbo of Zhejiang Gongshang University and Professor Qin Xiaoming of Guangdong Ocean University; and Session 3 was co-chaired by Professor Mao Xiangchao of Ocean University of China and Professor Liu Hongying of Hebei Agricultural University. The presentation was on astaxanthin and its bioactivity in aquatic products, followed by a Q&A session with all the professors. The session was co-chaired by Professor Xiong Shanbo of Huazhong Agricultural University and Professor Shin Hyun-il of Hainan University. The presentations covered the current status and future trends in research on processing methods, flavor compounds, preservation technologies, rapid detection techniques, functional components and bioactive substances, as well as processing equipment for fish, shrimp, crabs, shellfish, and algae. The special reports not only provided comprehensive coverage but also integrated theoretical research with practical production applications, followed by lively discussions that fostered an active and engaging atmosphere at the venue.

In addition, on the evening of the 10th, prior to the commencement of the formal conference, five parallel graduate forums were held, featuring compelling presentations by more than 100 master’s and doctoral students from various universities and research institutes. Forum 1 was co-chaired by Professor Zhao Yuanhui of Ocean University of China and Professor Wu Long of Dalian Ocean University; Forum 2 was co-chaired by Professor Hou Hu of Ocean University of China and Professor Luan Donglei of Shanghai Ocean University; Forum 3 was co-chaired by Professor Zhong Jian of Shanghai Ocean University and Professor Rong Jianhua of Huazhong Agricultural University; Forum 4 was co-chaired by Professor Zhao Yongqiang of the South China Sea Fisheries Research Institute under the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences and Professor Sun Lechang of Jimei University; and Forum 5 was co-chaired by Professor Chen Juanjuan of Ningbo University and Professor Zhou Chunxia of Guangdong Ocean University. The presentation topics covered not only aquatic product processing but also aquaculture and industrial wastewater treatment, spanning the entire processing chain. The program was tightly organized and highly research-oriented, facilitating extensive scholarly exchange, enabling participants to gain valuable insights, stay abreast of current research advances and future directions, and thereby promoting the further development of the aquatic product processing sector and advancing the field collectively.

Thanks to the concerted efforts of the organizers, professors and graduate students from various research institutions, and conference delegates, the event was conducted smoothly and concluded successfully. Prior to the conference, Chinese researchers in aquatic product processing diligently studied and implemented the spirit of the “Opinions on Innovating Institutional Mechanisms to Promote Green Agricultural Development,” achieving significant progress in fundamental theoretical research, breakthroughs in key technologies, and the development of high-value-added products for green aquatic product processing, thereby laying a solid foundation for establishing a green production and management system in this sector. This conference further strengthened academic exchange in the field of aquatic product processing, explored cutting-edge technologies and emerging trends in the green development of the industry, enhanced China’s capacity for independent innovation in aquatic product processing technology, and promoted the transformation, upgrading, and sustainable development of the country’s aquatic product processing industry.
