Fuzhou, Fujian Province Launches Fisheries Disease Monitoring Services for Coastal Fishermen

On April 24, the Epidemic Prevention and Quarantine Department of the Fuzhou Marine and Fisheries Skills Center in Fujian Province conducted disease monitoring in Jianjiang Town, Luoyuan County. To ensure the smooth resumption of production and business operations at aquaculture enterprises in Fuzhou, and in light of the gradual rise in seawater temperatures—which creates favorable conditions for the outbreak of aquatic diseases—the Skills Center leveraged its technical expertise to focus on fisheries disease surveillance. The center actively engaged in communication and exchanges with aquaculture operators to gain a clear understanding of their farming and production conditions, and provided guidance on the prevention and control of spring-time diseases commonly affecting aquaculture, thereby effectively facilitating the resumption of work and production at Fuzhou’s aquaculture enterprises. In accordance with the “Fuzhou Municipal Plan for Monitoring Aquatic Animal Epidemics and Fisheries Diseases in Major Aquaculture Areas,” this year the center will conduct targeted surveillance on 13 aquatic animal diseases affecting Fuzhou’s major farmed species—including whiteleg shrimp, eel, abalone, and goldfish—as well as on major, frequently occurring, and highly contagious diseases prevalent in the city’s aquaculture sector.
